Blackthumb
Have a sawmill and cut lots of Ponderosa pine.. It has a thick, deep bark. I was clearing up some today and thought I would 'cook' a batch to see how it performed for BP. Must say, it 'cooked' well and is a very light, fluffy charcoal. Will grind some in the Am and mill a batch of BP to see if it measures up to alder, etc.
Mumbles
Generally bark is less than desirable. It's where a majority of dirt, sand, and debris gets stuck. It can lend extra unknowns and potential contaminants to your mill. It'll be an interesting experiment, but perhaps not a viable long term solution.
