pyroChile Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Hello! Somebody know, how to make Sb2S3? Best regards, =)
rogeryermaw Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 a quick google search yields: http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antimony_trisulfide#Preparation the antimony(III) salts needed for this synthesis may be harder to get than the trisulfide and generating the hydrogen sulfide in lab presents its own entertainment. best to buy it if you can.
schroedinger Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Well there would also be the preparation by mixing antimony and sulfur and igniting it or using an soluble antimony salt and adding a solution of sodium hydrogenesulfide.Specially the second method is interesting as you can skip the H2S gas part
Mumbles Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Chemical reaction of elemental antimony and sulfur will never yield an overly clean product. It would almost certainly lead to the formation of "Sb2S5". There is some debate as to whether it's really antimony (V) sulfide or an antimony (III) adduct more appropriately configured as Sb2S3*S2 The reaction with hydrosulfide will also likely generate H2S, though you wouldn't be bubbling it. If you were going this route, it'd make far more sense to just use sodium sulfide.
