asdercks Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 (edited) Hi guys, I thought it'd be nice to start a thread (again) to share pics and comments and know how everyone is getting ready to receive the new year, this year my display will consist of a cake with 45- 2" shells (red, blue and green) 10- 2.5 glitter shells, 5- 3" shells (firefly) and 3-4" shells (still deciding the effect), so far I have all the 2" shells ready and the 2.5" will be done during the weekend Edited November 7, 2014 by asdercks 1
asdercks Posted November 9, 2014 Author Posted November 9, 2014 Update, today I loaded 10- 2.5" with 1/4" d1 stars, tomorrow I'll start pasting them

jessoman Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Shells look good asercks, should video your pasting technique. Looks tidy. My nye prep is crawling along. Started a few thousand colour cores. And have 60lb of star comps in boxes all ready to be rolled. Just got to mix my glitters. Also have cut all my end discs. Mainly 3 & 6" cylinders this year. All cylinders are open, stacked and ready for stars. Spolettes are also in end discs. 2
asdercks Posted November 27, 2014 Author Posted November 27, 2014 Hey thanks for the comment jess, I will post a video of how I built those shells as a matter of fact that is one of my pending projects but I guess it will have to wait a little. still pasting more shells On another subject... 60 pounds of stars!!! seems you will be setting up quite a show, please share some pics or video, be safe!
gregh Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I was just informed by my wife that we are supposed to go see some of her extended family with her parents for New Years. What in the $% is she thinking? This is the second most important day of the year, and I am supposed to travel eight hours (with six kids), put up with her family (and mine), and NO fireworks.... This aint gonna be good. Asdercks- those shells are looking good. Are you hand pasting? 1
asdercks Posted December 12, 2014 Author Posted December 12, 2014 I can't imagine a New Year with no fireworks. Yes gregh I hand pasted all of those shells.
asdercks Posted December 12, 2014 Author Posted December 12, 2014 Ok, so I have all the shells pasted and ready to go, now I have to start building the racks to accommodate all the mortars
enanthate Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 Nice collection you got there asdercks, dont understand how you have time for all of it! When did you start prepping for NYE? My tiny collection below. Will make couple more 4", and a 6.

asdercks Posted December 13, 2014 Author Posted December 13, 2014 Safety alert!!! I really hope you were not smoking while pyroworking. 72 shells, that is a lot, how will you be firing them, in a cake or one by one? 1
MWJ Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 (edited) It would be so cool if we could all get together and have one big display. That last shell dropped in a bucket of water when I was takeing this pic. Edited December 13, 2014 by MWJ 1
asdercks Posted December 13, 2014 Author Posted December 13, 2014 I know! that would be a hell of a show, so what kind of shells (effects) do you have there MWJ, and by the way Sorry to hear about your last shell, hope he knew how to swim, lol, don't forget to get pics or video when you fire all of those shells 1

asdercks Posted December 14, 2014 Author Posted December 14, 2014 What a coincidence I too have some 4" shells but I don't have a mortar lol, it seems to me that you're going to be comparing/testing some of your shells or why would you have primed/ unprimed, rolled/pumped stars of the same comp.
asdercks Posted December 15, 2014 Author Posted December 15, 2014 Here's a video of a 3 inch firefly shell I tested the other night, please don't mind the mortar set up 1
ddewees Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Girls are funny... Setting off car alarms is always a good sign. 2
dynomike1 Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 All that running made me tired. The shell looked good, but i thought it was TT- Glitter. 1
asdercks Posted December 15, 2014 Author Posted December 15, 2014 Girls are funny... Setting off car alarms is always a good sign. Indeed they are funny
enanthate Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 I agree with mike, nice shell but looked more like tt glitter. What comp and al was used?
asdercks Posted December 15, 2014 Author Posted December 15, 2014 I used this comp Basic Firefly Aluminum firework star CompositionPotassium nitrate 49 partsAir float charcoal 29 parts80 mesh charcoal 11 partsSulfur 9 partsFirefly aluminum 5 partsDextrin To taste the aluminum I used was eckart 41813g but I did not screen it so I think there was lot o fine AL particles in the mix and that is why the stars looked like TT glitter
enanthate Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) Hm, strange. Nice shell anyway mate, i wouldnt worry about it. Dont know how much it matters, but my comp is similar but with 6parts sulfur. Edit, sorry I had the names mixed up and thought fireflies looked different. Yours certainly look like fireflies to me, good ones too! Edited December 15, 2014 by enanthate
