ThaYankee Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Man that is one nice shell!! Do you use a paper or plastic shell? thnx.I always use paper shell.
KevFla2001 Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 I agree! That was a beautiful 2" shell. Would you mind sharing details about the construction, lift and burst charge?
ThaYankee Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 I agree! That was a beautiful 2" shell. Would you mind sharing details about the construction, lift and burst charge? ofcourse, I use pulverone for lifting, because I don't have a press yet... maybe in future. The shell weights about 40 grams and I used 10 grams pulverone for lifting. For burst I use 1.5 grams flash, it gives always a big round break with a nice bang!
Chris Posted December 27, 2006 Author Posted December 27, 2006 I liked your shells! Could you enlighten a bit more about the burst. Do you use something as a filler or is flash the only burst you use. Also, can you tell how many layers you have pasted on your shells?
Pretty green flame Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Two 70mm canister i fired today, enjoy. http://www.apcforum.net/files/Shell1.wmvhttp://www.apcforum.net/files/Shell2.wmv Comments welcome

Pretty green flame Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 @50caliber, i lift my shell with 1/10 in lift powder, i like to over lift them to make sure they get to a good height. @itwasntme, the first shell had chrysanthemum 5 stars in it, the second was better pearl.
Salute Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Today I fired one 2" round shell.Video:http://www.apcforum.net/files/Shell.wmv Break was quite weak and height of flight was quite low.
WisdomElf Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 dude you don't have a camera with more FPS?
Salute Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 Ok here is one 3" round shell:Photo:http://shrani.si/?shell014q4yz.jpg Video:http://www.apcforum.net/files/3inchroundshell.wmvWas it ok?
Mumbles Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 It looks like the stars burnt kinda long. Was it supposed to be a ring shell, because thats what it looked like?
Chris Posted December 30, 2006 Author Posted December 30, 2006 Did all stars in the shell catch fire? It seemed like bit poor star ignition, or was it supposed to be a ring shell, like Mumbles pointed? Hey Mumbles, have you prepared something to shoot on new years eve?
Mumbles Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 Nope, I was originally going to be out of town. Lucky me I have no money so I couldn't go to warm sunny florida. I did make some shells and mines for christmas though. That was shut down early by the neighbors, so I do have some stuff left over for new years. A brocade shell, a palm shell, and a blonde streamer w/ purple shell.
Salute Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 Yes, stars burnt for a very long time, next time I will used 10mm and there was only 10 stars, so they all burnt(well yes stars was too big). The shell was supposed to be normal shell, not ring shell. I'm quite new in this and it was my first 3" shell. I hope that today will be better(I'll shoot 3" shell with D1 glitter stars) Sorry for my Eng. Cheers
Salute Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 Another 3" round shell:http://www.apcforum.net/files/3inchshelld1glitter.wmvI'm not happy about symmetry, but in general it was quite ql. Comments welcome
fizeau Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 I have no experience with roundshells so I would like to know why you wasn´t happy with the break? should it have been more circular? I really liked the performance of your shell.
Salute Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Yes I wanted to be more circular and preety green flame told me that I must use smaller size stars for 3" shell.
Chris Posted January 1, 2007 Author Posted January 1, 2007 Here are a few shells from yesterday. Overall I'm pretty statisfied with the results. I need to work on the priming of stars though, since blind stars was the main issue. 3" Chrystanthemum This was a spherical paper shell with C6 stars. The burst was BP on puffed rice with <1g of 7/3 flash. Maybe the best shell of the night. However, I used a bit different-sized stars, which apparently resulted in a somewhat assymterical pattern. Another remarkable note is that I used almost 40 layers of 40lbs kraft to paste the shells. I wanted to see what kind of effect this type of confinement gives. 2" White canister Paper canister with Davis White stars. Burst was granulated BP. This was actually my first try on spiking a canister shell. The break isn't exactly symmterical, which might be a result of assymetrical spiking. The string I used is just common household twine and definitely not strong enough to be used with shells. 3" C6 to Silver This was a spherical plastic shell confined with glassfiber tape. Same burst as earlier. Few stars seemed to burn out very fast unfortunately. If you watch the clip in slow motion, you will notice that the pattern is symmetrical right after the burst, but then a few stars either get blown out or burn away. It might be that I had a few smaller stars among the normal ones resulting in this pattern. Anyway, it was on ok shell. 3" White Peony Spherical plastic shell reinforced with gf tape. Again, same burst as earlier shells. Pretty large pattern imo. I noticed how much big of a difference a small flash booster makes in the break. For comparsion, here is a 3" plastic shell built as all other shells except without any flash. The results speak for themselves; 3" Red peony All shells were lifted with 20g +/- 2g BP.
Pretty green flame Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Wow, i really like the C6 to silver one, others are excelent as well but C6 to silver is the best one IMO. Good job!
styropyro Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Those are some really nice shells there. My favorite was the first C6. When you make your C6 stars do you mill the composition together or do you just wet and cut? I'm pretty sure most people mill and then wet and cut but I just wanted to make sure before I make some.
Frozentech Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Well, I had a fairly good pyro New Years. First worked a small handfired show for my town, 300 shells +finale, then fired off some of mine. Of the 5 shots, only 3 were 100% successfull. I blew up one of my 3" mortars, I still need to go look for pieces... Here's a link to my favorite of the 5. http://www.apcforum.net/files/4inchCrossette123106.wmv If I had more time, I would post the rest, but I have to head out soon, catching a plane in a few hours. Have a Happy and Safe New Year.
cplmac Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I built these two along with some rockets for NYE. 3" cylinder salute with Ti whistle spolette time fuse 6" red go getter, not a lot of go but plenty of red.
Salute Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Awesome shells! I really like the sound of break! excellent job! Cheers, matavzh
