Bobosan Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 My DSL modem has been up and down like a yoyo since Monday evening. I was told by my internet provider that the modem is "wall gardened" and they'll have to send a tech out to fix the problem. After a bit of research I found that this "walled garden" is put in place by the ISP to prevent internet navigation like might be done at a library or school to block web areas/sites. Is there more to this "walled garden" thing besides what I read on the net?If this has been initiated by the ISP, why send a service tech when they could remove it at the frontend?
rogeryermaw Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 sounds fishy...on your guard, there, bob. who's your isp? please don't say at&t.....
Bobosan Posted October 16, 2014 Author Posted October 16, 2014 Yeah, it does sound fishy but there may be a very plausible reason that I figured out on my own. ISP used to be Verizon but they sold off this area to Frontier. I was still using a Verizon modem up until today. I had a couple spare modems laying about, one of them was branded Frontier so I hooked it up and walla!, it walked me through an online setup routine (the walled garden) and I'm up and running close to stable. I guess the reason for the onsite tech was putting a new config file into the older Verizon modems. The help tech I talked with I no idea I had these extra modems.
Bobosan Posted October 18, 2014 Author Posted October 18, 2014 NSA is listening Probably. My name is on so many "lists" by now anyway.
MrB Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Mine isn't. And i have NO IDEA why i'm still getting denied when i apply for tourist visa to the USA...B!
Bobosan Posted October 21, 2014 Author Posted October 21, 2014 Well, the Frontier service tech came out today. Found an intermittent short in the telco line in one of those tall 4 x 4 street side tap boxes. Seems when the state last mowed the right-of-way they bumped the top off the box allowing the rain to soak a mouse nest that had been built across the wire connectors. Removed the wet nest and all is good. Showed him the Frontier page where the help desk tech said I was wall gardened, he said "bullshit, that's what it's supposed to say when you enter that URL". At least the help desk guy wasn't from India or Pakistan and I could understand the bullshit line.
