Jameson Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Spontaneous combustion is being blamed for a dumpster fire that broke out Monday night in Santa Barbara.Fire crews were called out at about 9 p.m. to the 500 block of East Micheltorena Street, said Capt. Gary Pitney of the Santa Barbara City Fire Department. They found flames burning in a large roll-off dumpster at a construction site, Pitney said.A large staining operation using linseed oil had been going on at a building under construction earlier in the day, Pitney said. Carbon796 Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 That's a pretty well know issue, when working with linseed oil. . . Is there a question ?
taiwanluthiers Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 moral of the story: don't throw a bunch of rags with linseed oil into a container... the reaction is enough to cause a fire.
Carbon796 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 (edited) So, how does this relate to pyrotechnics safety ? Edited October 9, 2014 by Carbon796
BurritoBandito Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Because boiled linseed oil is sometimes used in coating magnesium?
Bobosan Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 It's also used to roast nOObs who talk about making flash in their first post. 1
Bobosan Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Must've missed that post. ummmm...BB, it was tongue-in-cheek comment on a potential use of BLO. Just a humorous thought.
Carbon796 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Must've missed that post.I must have missed it also. I also realize what linseed oil is used for in pyrotechnics. But, until your post, this thread had absolutely no reference to pyrotechnics . . .
BurritoBandito Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Forgive me Bobosan, I am a little slow at times.
