dagabu Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 I made a metric crap load of tooling this weekend waiting for the rain to go away. I have charcoal to cook (just filled the TLUD with ERC) and to fill the time, I kicked out some tooling to aid me in my hand range of motion exercises. 13, 3/4" basic comet pumps, 11, 1" basic comet pumps, 2, 3/4" Go-Getter pumps. I make the basic pumps with extra long rammers and then turn them down to meet the customers expectations. They can be made into go-getter pumps, crossette pumps or any length star or comet you can think of. Fully customizable this way.
nater Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Do you manage to get turning a lathe to count as your OT? Those all look great!

eekAmouse Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 What tolerance do you have between the ram and sleeve?
dagabu Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 What tolerance do you have between the ram and sleeve? Any tolerance you want, 0.001 all the way up. I dont charge for that kind of customization. WARNING! 0.001 will seize on air-float charcoal. I like to match my tolerance to my metals, I just pumped a few go-getters with a LOT of Mg/Al, I gapped the pump to 0.02 so i could be 0.001 over the biggest chunks.
eekAmouse Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I thought that I read that particle clearance should be under 1/2 gap or over 4 times gap. Have you had/seen any problem with this or is it more for stuff smaller than 200mesh because the percentages are closer to the .001 that you have? Also do you have compaction problems when using only fine ingredients with a looser tolerance ram?

Also do you have compaction problems when using only fine ingredients with a looser tolerance ram? You are correct about the gaps but you didn't specify what you are looking for. I think you need to read the post again, I gapped my current pump to 0.02" over so that the largish chunks would pass along freely without binding since this comp uses 300-40 mesh.
