kpknd Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) I have been watching the 1960"s Thunderbirds series lately and am damn impressed with the model work they did. I was noticing the engine exhaust effects on the models and they seem to burn fairly long (probably speeded up the film when shooting to slow things down and end burning) and no noticeable sparks. It looks to me like a sugar motor because the flame is'nt as big and bright as for a BP fuel, plus no sparks. There are probably 100's of FX formulas out there. Maybe this should have been posted on the pyrotechnics page. Edited September 3, 2014 by kpknd
Mortartube Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 They used to use Jetex commercially available motors a lot on the earlier Gerry Anderson shows. Sugar motors would usually make too much smoke in a confined smallish studio.
Arthur Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Some Thunderbirds footage was shot at 100+ FPS to get the scale right. Search the UKPS Youtube channel for some demos at the last (2014) AGM
