So for the life of me I can't figure out what happened to my camera over the weekend. Its been misplaced somewhere. So until I find it I'm not moving any farther on this project. Though the only thing left to do is light it .
The pressing went very well. The Ti actually release easier that clay does. Looks like a shiny gray nozzle. The Ti seems to be about 4-5 times more volumetric compared to clay when it comes to amount put in for a given amount of nozzle. Were I would use about 2-2.5 scoops of clay for the nozzle, this used about 8 scoops, in several different pressings. It does look quite uniform and stout.
The motor was loaded with some 3Fg Goex that I had around. It was the only source for hot bp I have at the time. I would have made it with some red alder bp but I'm still in the process of milling some of the charcoal down. After about 2.5" of fuel, the motor was capped of with an increment or so of bentonite clay.
I will not be flying the motor, just static testing it in the ground point up. I don't like the idea of letting loose a rocket that has a Ti nozzle just to see it come falling back down burning. Ignition will be via a fuse at the top of the nozzle core. I think I'll put a piece of tape around the fuse so it doesn't ignite the Ti nozzle first. I want to light the fuel only and see what happens after that. I'm not sure if this Ti will burn or not when pressed into a solid piece. It will light on fire with just a match in its powdered form, then burns very similar to magnesium, but not as bright or as long.
Sooo eager to see what this thing will do. I really need to find that camera.
EDIT:
FOUND THE CAMERA!!! YAY. TOMORROW EVEN YIELDS RESULTS, PICS, AND A VIDEO.
